How to use PDF merge and split
- To merge, select several PDF files, set the order with the up and down buttons, and press Merge.
- To split, select one PDF file and enter the page range to extract, for example 1-3,5,8-.
- When the result file is ready, click the save link to download it.
How PDF merge and split works
A PDF is a document structure made of pages. This tool uses the pdf-lib library to copy pages from the original PDFs and join them into a new PDF, or to pick the pages you specify and save them as a new PDF. Because it moves page data as it is without redrawing text and images, quality does not drop and text stays selectable. In a page range you can write a span like 1-3, separate several spans with commas, and leave the end empty, as in 8-, to mean through the last page. Everything happens inside your browser and files are never sent to a server, so contracts and other documents can be handled without uploading them anywhere.
When merging or splitting does not work
A PDF protected with a password may not be processed because of its restrictions, and a damaged file causes an error. Very large files can fail because of browser memory, so try splitting the work. If a merged file is large, you can also shrink the images first with the image compressor and then make the PDF.
Tips
- Use it to merge several scans in order into one file for submission.
- It is convenient for pulling only the pages you need from a large document to email.
- Check the order with the up and down buttons before merging.
- Splitting into single pages lets you save each page separately.
Notes & limitations
The downloaded result is saved separately from the original, so the original stays untouched. For important documents, open the result and check that the page order and contents are correct.
FAQ
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. They are processed only in your browser and never sent to a server.
Is quality kept after merging?
Yes. Pages are copied and joined as they are, so quality and text selection are kept.
Does it work on password-protected PDFs?
Files with an open password may not be processed. Use a file with the password removed.
