Chat Anonymizer & Screenshot Mosaic Tool

Replace names with Person 1, 2 and blur parts of screenshots

Hide names and personal details in chats, and mosaic screenshots yourself before saving.

Use the toolHow it works

Everything is processed inside this browser; your chat text and images are never sent to a server. Automatic masking is not perfect, so always read the result yourself.

How to use the chat anonymizer and screenshot mosaic tool

  1. In text mode, paste a chat exported from KakaoTalk or WhatsApp and press "Anonymize". Speaker names are replaced with "Person 1", "Person 2" and so on.
  2. The names found automatically are shown as a checklist, so uncheck any you want to keep. Names that are only mentioned inside messages go under "Extra names to hide".
  3. Phone numbers, emails, links and long ID or account-like numbers can be masked with the options. Use the copy button to take the result.
  4. In image mode, upload or paste a screenshot, drag over the parts to hide, choose mosaic, blur or a black box, and save the result as a PNG.

How names are found and replaced

Text mode reads the line format of messenger exports. For KakaoTalk it looks for the name position in the "date time, name : message" and "[name] [time] message" formats, and for WhatsApp in "[date, time] name: message". The names found are numbered Person 1, 2, 3 in order of first appearance, and every occurrence of the same text is replaced by the same label. Longer names are replaced first so overlapping names do not collide.

Phone numbers, emails, links and ID numbers have consistent shapes, so they are found by patterns and replaced with [phone], [email], [link] and [number]. They are processed before names so that a name inside an email address or link does not remain. Image mode overwrites the selected rectangle with pixelation, blur or a black rectangle.

The tool uses only regular expressions and the canvas feature, so nothing passes through an outside service or server. Long chats are processed in one go, but very long ones (tens of thousands of lines) can make the browser slow for a moment, so it is better to paste them in parts. Numbers are assigned in order of first appearance, so processing one conversation in separate parts can give the same person different numbers.

Please remember it is not perfect

Automatic name detection only works on the known formats. It cannot find nicknames or titles, misspelled names, names written as initials, or names of other people mentioned inside a message. Add them under "Extra names to hide". The option for first names without surnames can change ordinary words, so it is off by default. That is why you must read the result from start to finish and check that no personal information remains.

With images, a weak mosaic or blur sometimes leaves enough to guess the original text. For names, numbers and addresses, raise the strength or use a black box, which is the safest. When you save, a new PNG is made from what is shown on screen, so metadata such as camera information does not follow, but information visible inside the picture is not removed for you.

Before publishing a conversation with other people in it, it is best to get their consent. Even with names hidden, speech style, situation or dates can reveal who someone is, which can cause privacy or reputation problems. If you must submit a conversation as evidence in a dispute or report, keep the unedited original separately and say that the submitted version has been edited.

Tips for good results

  • Before pasting, check the first few lines of the exported file to see that names appear in a known format.
  • Add the group chat name or a community name under "Extra names to hide" if it identifies someone.
  • Addresses, company names, school names and license plates are not searched for by this tool, so find and hide them yourself.
  • For images, select a slightly larger area than needed and zoom in before saving to check that no text remains.
  • Having a friend read the result once before you publish it is a good extra check.
  • Exported KakaoTalk files can contain info lines such as the save date. Such lines stay as they are, so delete them before pasting if you do not need them.
  • Read the result once more slowly before posting it, and check that no wording besides names hints at who someone is.

FAQ

Are my chats or images uploaded to a server?

No. Text conversion and image processing all run inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and it disappears when you close the page.

How do I export a KakaoTalk chat?

You can create a text file with the export-chat feature in the chat room menu. The menu location varies by app version. Copy the exported content and paste it here.

What if names are not detected?

Messengers use different formats, so detection can fail. Type the names under "Extra names to hide" or turn on the "Name: text" option.

Are nicknames and mentions hidden too?

No. Nicknames, titles, misspelled names and names written as initials cannot be found automatically. Add each of them manually under "Extra names to hide".

Does it detect names inside images?

No. This tool does not recognize text in images. Drag over the areas you want to hide and choose mosaic, blur or a black box.

Notes & limitations

This tool does not remove personal information perfectly and does not guarantee legal protection or accuracy. Names or details missed by automatic processing may remain, so check the result yourself, and think about responsibility and consent before publishing content with other people's personal information. BTSPACE WAGLE is an unofficial information site, and the text and images you enter are never sent to a server or stored.
