How to use the neon sign and LED ticker maker
- Choose Neon sign or LED ticker from the tabs above and type your text.
- Pick a color and font, then set the glow for neon, or the rows, speed and direction for the ticker.
- Use "Fullscreen" to leave it on like a cheer message or a stream background, or "Save PNG" to keep the current frame as an image.
Neon design with CSS text-shadow and light scattering
A neon sign is a gas-filled glass tube that glows when current passes through it. The key to imitating it on screen is the way the light spreads. On the web, CSS text-shadow or the canvas shadowBlur layers several blurred shadows of the same color around the text to give a feel of scattered light. A layer with a small blur radius stays strong near the text, and a larger one spreads faintly further out.
A real neon tube is very bright in the middle, looking almost white, and gets more saturated toward the outside. So the body of the text is painted in the color mixed toward white, and the glow of the original color sits outside it. A darker background makes the light stand out with more contrast. This tool follows the same idea and draws several glow layers, an edge stroke and a bright center in order.
How LED tickers work and uses
An LED ticker is a display where small dots are arranged in a grid and each dot is switched on or off to make letters. Converting text to dots and shifting it one column at a time makes it look like it is flowing. This tool draws the text as a small image, keeps only the bright cells as dots and moves them sideways. More rows give smoother letters, and fewer rows give a stronger dot feel.
It can be used for cheer messages, event notices, backgrounds for streams and gatherings, and social media profile banners. In fullscreen it is easier to see in a dim room. Shorter text is easier to read, and the scroll speed should be one you can read in a single pass. Leaving a bright screen on for long tires the eyes, so use it only as long as needed.
Tips for a good look
- Short text in a bold font suits neon.
- Using a single color keeps it clean.
- A ticker with 16 to 24 rows is comfortable to read.
- Keep the scroll slow enough to follow with your eyes.
- Turn on flicker only if needed and keep it slow.
FAQ
Does fullscreen keep scrolling?
The tool has no sound and only shows the screen. Pressing the fullscreen button makes the picture fill the screen and the scrolling text keep moving. You can leave with the Esc key or the on-screen prompt. To keep the device screen from turning off you may need to change its auto-off setting.
How is the neon effect made?
Several layers of glow in the same color are drawn behind the text, and bright text mixed toward white is placed in the center. This imitates a real neon tube, which is very bright in the middle and takes on color as it spreads outward. Raising the glow value widens the spread.
Is flicker dangerous?
Rapidly flashing screens are known to be a problem for people with photosensitivity. The flicker here is off by default, and even when on it only dims briefly once every few seconds. If you still feel uncomfortable, press Pause, and stop using it if you have symptoms.
Notes & limitations
Flickering effects and moving screens can be uncomfortable for some people. This tool keeps flicker off by default, and you can press Pause if it bothers you. Fonts may look different depending on your device.
