How to use the chart & graph maker
- Copy a table with a header row from a spreadsheet and paste it into the left box. If you are new, press Sample to see the shape first.
- Under the box, pick Bar, Horizontal bar, Line, Area, Pie, Doughnut or Radar from Type. The chart follows as you edit the table.
- Add a title and switch options such as Show values, Legend, Stacked and Smooth lines on and off until it looks right.
- When finished, press Save PNG to download or Copy image and paste it straight into a document or chat.
How a table becomes a chart
The pasted text is first split into rows and cells. The tool detects whether tabs, commas or semicolons were used, reads the first row as series names and the first column as horizontal labels, and picks numbers from the remaining cells so that each column becomes one data set. Numbers with commas or unit marks are cleaned up, so a spreadsheet table can be used almost untouched.
The chart is drawn inside this page and the numbers you type never leave your device. Sales figures, household budgets and survey results you would rather not expose can be visualized safely, and the chart is saved as a high resolution image that stays sharp in presentations.
Choosing a chart type
Numbers in a table alone do not show at a glance what is large or small, rising or falling. A chart makes comparisons and trends visible immediately, which makes reports, presentations and blog posts far more convincing. The same numbers can give very different impressions depending on the chart type, so choose one that fits your purpose.
Bars are the most honest choice for comparing sizes between items; a horizontal bar reads better when labels are long or there are many items. Lines suit change over time such as monthly sales or weight, and an area chart adds a sense of volume to the same flow. Turning on Stacked lets you see totals and composition together.
Pie and doughnut charts show shares of a whole, but beyond five or six slices they become hard to tell apart. A radar chart is good for comparing several abilities or satisfaction items at once, so it often appears in evaluations and profile comparisons.
If a bar chart's vertical axis starts above zero, small differences look exaggerated. This tool starts at zero by default, so turn the option off only when you really need to emphasize a difference. Avoid too many colors in one chart, and for slides use the transparent background option so it blends with the slide color.
Tips for good charts
- Always include a header row. If the first row holds numbers it becomes the names.
- Use only numbers in number cells. Cells mixed with text are treated as empty.
- Show values adds exact figures. With many items it is cleaner turned off.
- Starting the vertical axis of bars and lines at 0 looks more honest.
- If you will print or photocopy in black and white, try the Greens palette.
FAQ
How do I paste a spreadsheet table?
Copy the table area including the header row from a spreadsheet and paste it into the box. The first row holds series names, the first column holds the horizontal labels and the other columns hold numbers. Text split by commas or semicolons is detected automatically.
Can numbers contain commas or currency signs?
Yes. Marks such as 1,234, $5,000 or 12% are ignored and only the number is read. In comma-separated text, wrap numbers that contain commas in double quotes.
Which chart type should I pick?
Use a line for change over time, bars to compare sizes, and pie or doughnut for shares of a whole. If labels are long, a horizontal bar is easier to read.
What if I have several columns for a pie chart?
Pie and doughnut charts can show only one number column, so the first number column is used. To see another column, move it to the front of the table.
Is my data saved?
No. It is neither sent to a server nor kept in your browser. Keep your original file if you need the table later.
Notes & limitations
This tool is meant for turning simple tables into charts quickly and does not suit huge data sets or complex statistical charts. What you type is processed only in your browser and is never sent or stored. BTSPACE WAGLE is an unofficial information site. To reshape table data, also try the JSON CSV Converter.
