How to use the QR code generator

  1. Enter the URL or text you want in the QR code.
  2. Choose the size, error correction level and colors.
  3. Check the preview and save it as PNG or SVG.

How the QR code generator works

A QR code turns data into a grid of black and white squares. The text you enter is converted to bytes and error-correction information is added, which determines the size of the grid. The higher the error correction level (L, M, Q, H), the better the code still reads when partly damaged or covered by a logo, but the squares become denser for the same content. Korean and other text can be stored too, encoded as UTF-8. This tool draws the code on your own device, so the address you enter is never sent anywhere, and no sign-up or expiry is involved.

Tips

  • For business cards or flyers, SVG is convenient because it stays sharp when enlarged.
  • Print it at least 2 cm wide and keep enough contrast against the background.
  • The longer the address, the denser the squares, so shorter addresses work better.
  • If you plan to place a logo in the middle, use error correction Q or H.

Making a QR code that scans well

For a phone camera to read the code, it needs a quiet margin around it and strong contrast between foreground and background. Do not reduce the margin value in this tool below 2 modules. When printing, print larger than the size you made on screen and place the code where it will not be folded or creased.

Notes & limitations

After creating a QR code, always scan it with a smartphone yourself. A light foreground on a dark background may not scan, so keep the foreground dark and the background light.

FAQ

Does a QR code expire?

The codes this tool makes are static codes that hold the address or text as it is, so they do not expire. However, if the site at the address disappears it will no longer open.

Does it work with Korean text?

Yes. It encodes as UTF-8, so Korean and other languages can be stored.

How much content can it hold?

It depends on the error correction level, and several hundred characters are possible, but the longer it is the denser and harder to read it becomes.
